Proctor Performance Pistol

I know members here have attended his classes and the various AAR's I've read about his class are all extremely positive.

My question is what is the general level of the students in the performance pistol class? I would rate myself as a beginner with a solid understanding of the basics and safety, but with no formal handgun training I don't want to take the class and either it be too advanced for me, or be that guy that potentially slows down the class as everyone there has spent hard earned money to train.

I plan on taking the class in Redlands in November, but I'm also willing to take other classes around the Bay Area for intro and beginner work to build up skills, if someone has suggestions for those as well.

You'll get a lot more out of the class if you have some competition experience (USPSA/IDPA) so start hitting up your local matches. For a first class, it can be difficult to move to the performance portion when you're still working on your draw or pressing the trigger without flinching.

I have taken two Proctor classes I highly recommend him...he will make you a better shooter

I attended his Performance Pistol Class in Redlands this past April.

Frank's classes are more geared towards intermediate-advanced to advanced shooters, with a heavy slant towards USPSA and IDPA shooting. Keep practicing the fundamentals, reloading and basic shooting while moving drills, take a couple of formal classes and participate in a couple of matches putting it all together.

My advice is to study SuperSet's excellent Frank Proctor DVDs and practice the techniques to the point where all of your actions are smooth and efficient. Efficiency will then bring you speed and accuracy.

Just curious, I am not aware of any range in San Timeteo Canyon which is where his Redlands class is listed as being held.

I haven't taken a class from Frank but I know several friends who have and their only complaint is that for the money, the classes are waaaaay big and my friends all walked away a little disappointed in their actual time with Frank.

I have trained with Frank Proctor twice and that was not my experience. Most of the shooting is done in single shooter exercises with a lot of feedback from Frank. I thought it was money well spent.

Frank is a proponent of reloading in the high-ready/workspace/shooter's box etc so you wouldn't like his classes anyhow.

I haven't taken a class with Frank yet either (class at Richmond R&G a month ago was cancelled that I was signed up for) but definitely looking to train with him. Maybe if he comes back next year to Richmond.

Not sure if those classes your friends attended were Alias sponsored classes or not but I'd have to agree on overly large class sizes Alias allows. Last couple I've attended through Alias have all had 20-25 students per instructor and it affects the individual learning aspect. Even though they have a great list of instructors on hand, I've stayed away from Alias for that reason.

The class packing is one reason Defoor struck out alone and limits his classes to 12-15 max.

Find a class from Frank that Alias is not involved with, size will be at least 10 less shooters.

Atekhed, Frank has an open enrollment pistol class at Metcalf at the end of the year.

My class with him was too big, I'd like to take another if enrollment was capped at 18 students. Mine had 24. My other Alias classes had about 18.

Thanks. I saw that (think he has two, 2 day OE classes in Dec as well as the LE/Mil ones) but RR&GC is about 20-30mins from me, while Metcalf is about an hour and half away. Big convenience factor for me there.

Would have signed up for Defoor's class after it went OE at Richmond but it filled by the time Proctor had to cancel his. Right now I am signed up for Pannone's class there in Nov. Should be good and I've been told it's limited to 15 students which is a plus.
