    Pistol Courses format

Just curious about the common format of 3 levels, 4 days format. Typically 1 day each for two levels and 2 days for the 3rd level.

Is the format, both number of levels and breakdown of days, based on some LE training or is it just more or less passed down from the early days of civilian training?

It's mostly a function of the amount and complexity of new information and skill sets included in the instruction. The classes at most schools are a progression of manipulation / shooting skills where subsequent classes build on prior classes.

Typically, the basic skills taught in the first 16 hrs / two days are individual skills and safety protocols taught to the entire class simultaiously on line. More advanced classes teach dynamic movement / CQB / structure work that needs to be done individually or in smaller groups.. Thereby more time consuming. There are also more safety issues requiring more time as students begin to combine a number of skills / manipulations in situation problem solving / learning of individual and team CQB tactics.
