    Barnes .224 70 grain Tac-X

Does anyone have any experience with this bullet? I heard certain military units and a certain LE unit use loaded ammo with this bullet. I don't know how true it is. Barnes told me some ammo companies use this bullet, but I only saw Silver State Armory markets this ammunition.

I just ordered 100 bullets to experiment with them. I usually load Sierra 69gr or 77gr MK HPBT bullets for my AR rifles.

Why does it interest you? It's hard to do much better than the SMK 69.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

For LE and CONUS defensive use, the 50 gr TSX is hard to beat.

For longer ranges and hunting tougher game, the 70 gr TSX is outstanding.

Barnes bullet catalog shows TSX 70 grains and Tac-X 70 grains. They looked the same to me, and I wonder if there is any difference.

I will probably use the same components to reload this bullet.

I use Vit N140 with Federal Bench Rest primers in LC brass. Hope this load can get me long range varmint shooting capability. I ordered the bullets from the Powder Valley and, the bullets will be delivered in a few days..Hopefully.

The TSX/TAC-X line is good stuff. The 70gr TSX and TAC-X are the same. It requires a 1/7 barrel to stabilize. The box says 1/8 or faster, but I got keyholing at 200yds out of my 16" 1/8 barrel.

The 50gr that DocGKR refers to is not available as a reloading component. It is available loaded via Black Hills, but costs ~$700 for 500rds. The 50gr TSX that you can buy for reloading is thinner where the 'petals' meet the body of the bullet. It is not as barrier blind as the Black Hills version. Even so, it is very consistent and easily shoots sub MOA when loaded on the upper end of Barnes' recommendations.

I never really liked Blackhills ammo or its company people.

I try to reload my own.

The invoice I got today was about $51 for bullets and about $10 for shipping.. Hmmm.
