    Berry Plated Handgun Bullets

I reload with Berry plated handgun bullets, and I get my fingers dirty black from touching the bullets. From what I read, the bullets are lead and plated with a thin copper layer. Is that black residue lead or something? Should I wash then dry the bullets before loading them?

Wouldn't be left over oil. They have to be clean before the plating will stick. Could be the plating is a little pourus and you're getting some lead. I think that plated is just hype. You still get leading if you drive them very fast. Might as well use plain lead.

Wear rubber gloves when reloading just in case.

              How 'bout gloves?

I wear latex gloves when I load...keeps my hands clean and my sweat off of components. I normally have some dark residue on the outside when I'm done. Re-use them and then toss! That's with Berry's 230 gr .45's!

Yup. I get 400 of them for $19 at Costco and use them whenever I am reloading.

I wear nitrile gloves when reloading. Keeps the lead off my hands, but also keeps the salts from skin/oil/sweat from corroding my equipment, cases, and bullets.

Less lead on my paws when at the range loading mags is why I use plated, and less when reloading too.

I have never noticed plating come off, even pushing past "recommended" for testing, Berry's, X-Treme, or gun show plated 9mm... I did shave some REAL thin plating on some surplus from RMR that had lipped bottom bases though, when reloading. The RMR 115&115gr plated "mixed" was the thinnest plating I had ever seen.

                      Just lick your fingers clean.
This will keep you from cross contaminating the children.

                        Do you do that?

The reason I ask is not during reloading, I clean my hands after reloading, but it's for during shooting time. I eat and drink during shooting, and I shoot hundreds of rounds everytime. It's kind of a burden to clean hands before handling foods. I don't care much about dirt, but lead or whatever chemical is my concern.
