    hypothetically speaking...

O/k ... I know you can cut down 30-06 brass and use it in .45acp
revolvers..( I know...why would you WANT to..) !!
But... can it be used in a pistol ? (I'm thinking 1911 format) Stay with me here a moment...!!
If so... could the barrel be reamed and ejection port cut to allow a "LONGER" case used ??? (I'M THINKING .45acp MAGNUM !!! ???)
    What say you!!!

Overall length would still be determined by the magazine, but the idea has been done with a slightly longer case operating at higher pressure. .451 Detonics or something? I think there is even a .50 wildcat cartridge for the 1911. Just remember that if you do come up with something really cool, most of the good names are already taken.

It can be done, but the wall thickness will be greater than a normal .45 ACP.

You could just BUY 45 win mag cases too...

As for guns, you want to find yourself an Automag IV as that's what will fire it.

My first thought was he just reinvented the 45 winchester magnum , or you could just try the 460 rowland, this is a cartridge that many standard 45 autos can be converted to . here is some perfromance from hornady , I left out the actual powder charges so its not mistaken for 45 acp

+1 on the shot cartridges -- there was a WWII standard survival shot cartridge for pistol and revolver that was essentially a 30/06 case shortened and necked to put the forward portion into the bullet area -- Overall length about the same as regular cart and bullet -- Used single shot in the 1911 --

Or a 10mm, for that matter.

It's a silly idea. Kinda like the .45GAP

It already exists and is called the 460 rowland.

Almost all modern 1911's can be converted to it simply by switching out the recoil spring and making sure you're using a full-length guide rod. Ideally though, you would switch to a fully supported/ramped barrel (which requires machining of the frame).

The .460 rowland brass on the outside is dimensionally identical to the .45acp, but the inside around the base is thicker to handle higher pressures. Uses the same bullets as .45acp. It's definitely a magnum.
