    Powder and primers.

Hey guys so I'm new to reloading and I have everything ready and I'm gonna start off with 9mm but I need to get my powder and primers. Now I know if I order online I have to pay hazmat fee. So where can I go and get it locally. I live in Tracy. I have a couple of fun stores near by and bass pro shop. Any recommendations would help.

    Thank you.

Primer should be easy enough to find, I try bass pro. Pistol power is still not readily available. If your looking for a specific powder its going to be even more difficult. Still I would try bass pro first (biigger store=bigger inventory) good luck.

Try Big5, they are about $40.00 per 1K for Winchester. Bass Pro is $39.99 for 1K of CCI and $49.99 for 1K of Winchester.

Just order enough on-line to mitigate the charge. I ordered 10 lbs of powder and 5K primers as my first order. Then I ordered 4k 115 gr 9mm bullets. I figure I'm good in 9mm for a couple of years. Of course, you have to like what you purchased. It was a hefty bill, but its not like money in the bank is making you interest these days.

If you know any CGN members in your local area willing to split the HM and shipping and get a group order going.

There are 2 shops in Oakdale that usually have supplies for ok prices.
PM me if you need help as I am not that far from you. I can also give you my phone number if you need/want help.
            What equipment did you get?

I picked up some pistol powder at bass pros a couple weeks ago, in manteca. They had a lot.

Its a bad time to be picky. Ill use whatever is on the shelf thats safe. For 9mm thats most pistol and shotgun powders luckily!

That bass pro has some kind of interesting powder about half the time I'm there. I think they always have primers.

The thing is they're kind of overpriced. You don't have to buy that much to cover a hazmat fee.

I got a pound of unique for under 25 with tax. Their prices were decent.

                        Cal Expo Crossroads

Go to the Cal Expo Crossroads gun show in Sacramento on March-21 & 22.

The Miwall Corporation will be there with a semi-tractor trailer full of ammo and components.

They usually sell primers for $121/5000 and smokeless powder for around $214 / 8 lb jug, or about $26.75 / lb. which are all pretty good prices.

They also sell projectiles for a very good price too. I got some Berry's Mfg 230 grain .451 copper plated ball for around $108/1000. This price includes the California sales tax.

Miwall does go to San Francisco ... However, I think Sacto will be the easier drive for you.

You might call Hook, Line and Sinker in Oakley. The last time I was in there they had a lot of powder. I wasn't in the market for powder so I didn't really pay attention to what they had but they had a bunch.
Also, keep a eye on Cabela's, the run specials on primers from time to time. If you order 5000 on sale it will offset the hazmat fee.
