    Rare Springfield find

I finally came across a rare holy grail type find to mark off my really really want list for my ammo collection. One 30 Govt. aka 30-03 Springfield. From what I found the last ammo produced in this cal. was around WWI

the pic shows the 30 govt, .270, 30-06

A couple years ago I had a full sealed box, with string pull under wrapper.Since it was sold I wondered what condition the ammo could have been in.Nice find!
    Keep it simple!

Since you're on the subject, many mistakenly believe the .270 Winchester is based on the 30/06. It's actually based on the 30/03, which has a longer neck than the 30/06 as you can see in your photo.

I've been preaching that for years, finally have the proof. I've been told that the reason for the longer neck was due to stretch when cases are resized. I went as far as destroying 20 30-06 cases by measuring, sizing to .270 and re-measuring. I found no more than .001-.002 stretch across the board.
