    Reloading 7.65x53 argentine quick questions.

Going to get into reloading rifle rounds, The only uncommon round i have is 7.65x53 argie so i wanted to do some research in regards to that round.

I see .311 and .312 bullets as being correct, is that just because the .311 is jacketed and the .312 is cast?

I cant find the correct RCBS shellholder for 7.65x53 argie, Do i just use the 30-06 shellholder #3? im guessing thats a YES.

I will need a some sort of case trimmer, I'm looking at something like this:

    and this:

Pretty sure i have everything else... maybe

any other infos or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Slapping an upper onto a lower is not "building" an AR-15.

What part of "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" do you illiterate pawns not understand!?

I just checked and a Lee #3 or a Lyman #6 both fit well, the RCBS #3 from my 30-06 set is just a tad to small for the case to slide in. It has been a long while since I loaded that round and I cant remember where I got the bullets from and what size they were. I would slug your bore and go from there.

I have that Lyman trimmer, it works real well but it is not real fast. You can get an adapter for it to hook a drill to. I would mount it to your bench or to a board that you can clamp to your bench, it kinda sucks using it not mounted.

Is your rifle a 91 or a 98 action? I have reloaded for the 7.65 Arg. for over 40 years. I use a RCBS file trim die to trim my cases and to make brass when I need it. There are .310, .311 and .312 jacketed bullets out there unless some of them have standardized and all of them work. What your referring to about the +1 over is that cast bullets are usually made + 1 thousandths over the jacketed but to be sure you need to slug the barrel. A #3 RCBS shell holder or any other shell holder that's for a 06 size head works. If your using new factory made brass they can run slightly larger in the head. If you slug the bore and it comes in tight as mine is you can use .30 cal bullets in the mid to heavy weights and they will work just fine. Pulled 7.62X39 and 7.62X54R will also work. HTH

Ideally you would slug your bore. I've used .311 and .312 jacketed but the .312s are very hard to find these days. I ended up using some Privi .311s for this caliber and for the Mosins.

My dies came with a shell holder so I never paid much attention to that.

Do you have brass or are you converting .30-06 brass?

          According to this it's #3.

I use Hornady .3105 174 gr. FMJBT. It's listed as a .303 bullet. Hornady cat number is #3131
40 grs. of IMR4895. This load is fairly consistent and my eyes are bad with the crude sights on the Argentine. I can ring a 8" gong 9/10 times at 100 yards. I'd like a good shot with good eyes to give it a try.

IIRC the 7.65x53 Belgian (AKA Argentine), which was first created for the Belgian Model 1889 Mauser, was the first Mauser cartridge that was rimless and pioneered the rim diameter that many other cartridges like .30-06 and 8mm Mauser is based on today, so it really was the forerunner before all of the "modern" bottleneck rifle cartridges.

That being said, any shell holder that can fit a .30-06 or 8mm Mauser case should fit a 7.65 Argentine case good too.

I have quite a good bit of prvi partisan brass i will use first, then consider making it from 30-06 as i have a bit of that aswell. thanks!

Awesome, they are very accurate from what i have seen from mine, I need some more range time to get used to the sights and where to hold on target at different ranges. i have only shot this particular rifle at 100yrds a handful of times and it does exceptionally well. thanks for your input.

Indeed this round was quite advanced for its time and i still hear about people using it for hunting with sporterized mauser variants as well. Plus you just cant beat that liquid glassy bolt operation that comes with these small ring mausers!!! thanks again guys. ill start gathering resources.

I have a smallish amount of Privi brass and it's good (I think I have around 100 from factory loads and another 100 I bought). I have giant piles of .30-06 and converted a few just as a test and it's pretty straightforward (you basically just size it and trim it - the only issue is that depending on your die it might be better to do a pre-trim so it will all fit. You can hack off the end or if you have a good trimmer you can just use that.) Depending on how long the Privi brass lasts I might end up converting more .30-06.

ok 1891 or 1898 makes no difference to the load. just load it to 7.65 specs and you'll have no issues.

and it was the 1888 8mm Mauser that was the predecessor to the 7mm and the 7.65mm Mauser rounds.

7X57 or 8x57 would be closer brass but 06 will work too.
