Pistol powder swap

has anyone used Alliant Extra-lite to load .45 ACP? can't seem to find any pistol powder.

It's REALLY fast. Based on old data for Bullseye in 12g, significantly faster than Bullseye.

This guy on Youtube doesn't know what he is doing. When you look at primers for evidence of over pressure, you are comparing this to pistol primers that can handle 35,000 psi. 45ACP SAAMI limit is 21,000 psi. You can be way over pressure limits without cratering primers.

Extra Lite will work in 45ACP, but for very low speed/low recoil loads because it was meant for 7/8 and 3/4 oz 12 gauge shotgun loads. I would not use it very much over 3-3.5g under a 230g bullet. I have used it in 3/4 oz 12 gauge target loads and it works great. Builds up pressure very fast and burns cleanly even with a light payload with a crisp recoil and no evidence of a "whoosh" blooper.

If you were in Sacramento, I'd be happy to trade you that for a brand new pound of Unique or Red Dot.

Proceed with caution, don't try to get Unique/Bullseye speeds and you will be OK.

Yes. I was thinking of starting at 3G and keeping it slow, I dont have a chrono sadly to check speeds, I do want the gun cycle correctly and Feel safe

Good plan. Use enough to allow for reliable cycling and slide lock back at the last shot and you should be good to go.

The only thing that sucks is waiting till I hit the range to try the loads.
