Breaking down loaded ammo. Is resizing necessary?

I worked up a load for a rifle and found a winner. Now I have a several rounds that I will not be shooting.

My question is if I pull the bullets from the shell, do I have to resize the brass again?

If you already sized and trimmed them, just neck size them. If someone else (including a large factory) loaded them, I would FL size and trim them.

Don't forget to remove the decapping pin. You have a live primer.

^^^^ Wrong.
You do not need to REMOVE the decapping pin. All you need to do is raise the decapping stem up so not to punch out the primer. This allows you to have the expander ball resize the neck of the brass properly.

When I say remove the decapping pin, I mean Exactly that. Just the decapping pin removed from the stem. The expander ball with the stem is still there.

Had I say, remove the stem that the decapping pin is attached to, then you would be right to correct me.

Not all decapping pins can be removed. Lee dies for example. In rifle calibers the decapping pin is part of the expander ball and cannot be removed.

Galt, Good point. I have a ton of dies, and only use the ones with removable pins. I forgot the Lee's are solid and have the collet on top to prevent breakage. I stand corrected.

May I point out that many(RCBS older ones) stems have a split in the end for the expander to tighten the grip on the decap pin that does not have a shoulder. Tightening it so it will not come loose after removing the pin will cause it to collapse and then sometimes ruin the stem.
Also you have to remove the stem to remove the pin. It is just as easy to just raise the stem up.
As pointed out you also have one piece stems/decapper. Again just move the stem up.

So it is still not a good idea to remove the pin. This is not my first rodeo. Been doing this for a very long time and learned a few better methods from time to time.

I am working with a RCBS sizing die. I think I will just punch out the primer and start over

Alright, I punched out the un-fired primers and re-sized the brass.

My question now is can I use the primers again?

It's a never ending process as far as I'm concerned. Like I explained to my wife, I never give up and give 110% on everything I do As of today I barely have a pudge for a belly, but I will keep working on my Beer Belly
