Easy loading question. (Neck length, resizing 308 to 300sav)

    I cast my chamber.
It's a cut down 7.7 arisaka, and it's in 300 savage (confirmed by chambering 300 savage.)

The space for the neck length is pretty long, while 300 savage has a short neck.

I know this is probably a stupid question but - I assume I can let the neck grow to just shorter than this (or at least to 7.7 arisaka spec.)

And I plan on using 300 savage FL sizing dies to press 308 into 300 savage. I should be able to more or less retain the 308 neck now, right?

You can do it but you'll have to trim it a lot. The body taper on the 300 Savage case is a lot more than on the 308 Win. You can also neck up the 22.250 case but it will probably take a couple of steps. Start with a 260 expander and then go to a 30 cal expander.

The easiest thing to do is buy some 300 Savage cases.

Thanks. They are just wicked expensive and hard to find.

the neck "length" in the chamber is .3 or so.

this is due to it being an arisaka chamber, which was cut down but not reamed.

There is a guy on castboolits in the swappin and selling section that makes .300 from .308 brass at a reasonable price.

You will have to see if the FL die will accommodate the longer neck. I don't think it will, but you will have to measure how much room there is.
