I bought some winchester large rifle magnum primers and was wondering if these were ok to use for 338 lapua. The reason I ask is because I have been reading about reloading 338 lapua and everybody mentions federal 215s. I just wanna make sure im ok with what I got

What does your book say?If book says to use a lrm then your fine assuming a load is worked up.Last edited by highpower790; 12-26-2014, 9:26 AM.Keep it simple! -
They will work. I personally use Fed 215s, but other brands work okay. If you have already worked up a maximum pressure load, start by backing off a grain or two, but you'll probably work back up to where you are. Do you have an established load?Comment

I have nit started loading for it yet, so Im going to be starting at the min load and going from there.Comment

If you are using 300s, start with 90gr Retumbo and work up from there. If you are using 250-300, H1000 might be a better choice, but it won't get quite as good velocity.Comment

.338 LM load
I am working up a .338 LM load using WLRM primers, Lapua brass, H1000, and 250 gr Sierra SBTs.
I am uncomfortable with the flattening of the WLRM primers even on the lower end of the recommended H1000 load (say 88 gr). I am considering experimenting with a different powder and recipe to solve the overpressure signs on the primers. I may just try using the FED 215s and see if they flatten the same as the WLRMs.
Any feedback or suggestions? ThanksNRA Life Member
