    Empty powder bottle question please

I'm breaking down some 8# bottles of powder and am wondering about the containers to use...The bottom of the 1# powder bottles from all the manufacturers is HDPE 2...which is a very common plastic bottle material....I can buy it in blue or white opaque bottles pretty cheap..big mouth screw on lid...Just wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with stuff like this? I've read several threads about using milk jugs, etc but much of that stuff is poly propoline which is much different material and almost "degradable" in nature these days....

Any experinece appreciated..I don't have any old 1# available or would not be looking..Thanks again.

I think you'd be buying a bunch of one time use bottles for no reason. But if I were to do it LDPE would work and be cheeper then HDPE

Don't forget Powder use to come in metal cans. quart size is about a pound worth.

        .

They are black for a reason. Light degrades powder. Black prevents most, if not all, of the light from entering the bottle. White will probably let some light in. Dark blue may not. Shine a bright flashlight inside the white, and blue, bottle and see if any light comes through the plastic to the outside.

Funny I've gotten cans of pulldown for years in white gallon plastic jugs.. Thet are opaque white jugs, but still if that were the case that light did anything to it, I think the handlers of this stuff would not have sold them like this. All I've ever heard about deteriorating powders has been humidity and heat.. not light.

It's being broken down among 4 of us...we bought and split the hazmat fees so that's the reason for splitting it up...I store my stuff in a dark and temp/humidity controlled wooden magazine so I'm not so concerned for my stuff..more for the other guys that will take it and be gone...just trying to be helpful to them.

if you find yourself in San Jose, look me up. You can have 8 empty 1 lb bottles free. Just add your own label. I never throw them away. ever.

might try a WTB ad for empties too, im sure I am not the only one.

If you're near Fontana, I will trade you some 1lb bottles for your 8lb bottle.
