    Potential Reloader Finding Powder

I've been shooting so much lately that I've got to get into reloading. I plan to purchase the Lee Classic 4 Hole Turret Press Deluxe Kit, calipers, and 38 Special dies. A friend who has reloaded for 30 plus years will be mentoring me and will loan me his case cleaner and 9mm dies.

So I've been searching for powder, because I cannot see the point in purchasing reloading equipment if I cannot find powder. Before that I checked here and other sites to see which powders work well for for the above calibers, however not one powders I've seen recommended is available anywhere I've looked including GunBot.

    Am I doing something wrong?

You have to check gunbot pretty regularly and be ready to buy when it comes up. It can sell out before you check out.
I recently got some WSF from powder valley, Titegroup a few months ago.

ask your mentor where to find the powder. try looking at sites that carry reloading supplies ?
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

I don't have a problem finding powder, but it's taken me maybe three years to figure out a way for that to happen. You will find powder you can use if you want to reload today, it may not be exactly the powder you want and it may be expensive. You may also have to pay shipping without maxing out hazmat which would suck. You will find powder though, you just won't get the screaming deals that reloading used to be unless you are willing to wait.

Add your location, that will make it easier to give you suggestions.

Good news is that if you start reloading now you should just focus on one caliber to reload and learn with. So just focus on that for now, and get 1lb of powder that works with that caliber. 1lb of local powder, 1k of primers and some bullets will get you going, if you find you don't like it you can get rid of the kit without being too invested.

38special is super ****ing easy to reload, and it will run a whole pile powders.

weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

Check Gunbot AND Ammoseek regularly. Although you're only getting started, consider buying in bulk to absorb the hazmat hit. Powdervalley is generally the best go to for powder & primers. Xtreme for plated bullets.

As posted by someone else your location may allow us to let you know about potential physical stores in your area. Buying online requires you to pay shipping and hazmat fee which is around $27.50. Unless you buy powder and primers in bulk online it is going to increase your per lb cost significantly. There is a sub forum with reloading items for sale. I would check there frequently. One advice is look into your reloading manual to see which powders you have reloading data for when you see any of the go ahead and buy. We are not quite there yet in terms of supply where we can be too picky about the powders we use. One other top you can post a "wanted to buy" (wtb) thread in the sub forum, perhaps another forum member will spare a pound of their powder to help you get started.

Hit or miss there are some high price shops that have powder. Give it some time it will show up then when abundant and reasonably priced stock up on powder and primers as I have a feeling the new president will be Hillary because the voters are stupid.
California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.

If they have any powder then there is a high likelihood of them having powder that will run in a .38 revolver.

Check Sportsmans warehouse on Thursdays, I think the Rocklin store gets their deliveries on that day. Not sure about the new Sunrise store. I've also seen powder as Sac Black Rifle, but usually have to ask the staff if they have any powder in stock. Also have had luck getting some powder at Discount Shooter Supply in Roseville. But honestly, Gunbot is where I have had the most luck.
