Is this Linotype Metal? Anyone know?

I bought 20lbs of ebay from a seller and it looks great. Few pieces have the letters actually on it, those are for sure linotype. The rest are 1" wide spacers about 4" long. Reading castboolits forum and online, the consensus is it's linotype but I'm not certain. I don't want to paypal the guy and buy the 160lbs he has left. If its lino, it would be perfect for 30 cal rifle bullets.

I have my melting furnace, got it yesterday, but no put to melt and pour into. Lino melts at a lower temp the straight lead.

    Here are some pics.

Yes those with letters are lead from Linotype machines. My family used to have a typesetting business eons ago. As for the spacers? not 100% sure, but it does look like its from the same source. We used to use cartons cut to size for spacers.

If you buy from Rotometals, you will know exactly what your getting.
      No guess work involved.

Looks like lino to me. Yes I used a Linotype machine many many moons ago. In a past century.

They want $4/lb that's nuts! Worth buying the eBay stuff and worst case powder coat and be good.

The only way to know is to check the hardness.

This is loose hand-set type. It has less lead and approximately twice the amount of tin and antimony than linotype metal. You would need to add additional lead to get it to linotype hardness.

foundry type has the notch on the side.

                  tin 10%
antimony 24% may also have some copper

use at 1-5 or 1-10 r so with lousy (soft) lead to get hardness and good fillout from the tin
