    Reloading 158 Gr LRN Bullets {38/357}

    Greetings Fellow Shooters:

    Any one reloading using the 158 Gr LRN bullets with 38's? The grandson and I just purchased 5 lbs of Red Dot and a Lb of Unique.

    My Speers {12th Edition} has the 158 Gr Bullet using between 4.3 and 4.7 of Unique..we loaded some using 4.5 and they are good to go. I can get 1555 rounds with the lb lb of Unique and if memory serves me right, I remember reloading using Red Dot but can't find a receipe. The 12th Edition has [using} Red Dot with a 148 Gr WC bullet and it called for 3.7 to 4.3 Grains of powder.

    We got 1000 LRN's out of Florida this week, so we won't be exchanging the rounds and finally got the powder...just wish that I had been paying attention and got a couple more lbs of Unique.

    I {we} would appreciate any formula using the Red Dot with the 158 Gr LRN's. Thanks in advance.

    Aliant 1996 manual shows 3.1 Gr. with note to start at 10% under the shown maximum load.

      You might be able to find more Unique locally. Coulda sworn West Coast Ammo had some in stock the other day.

      As far as formulas (I like to call them recipes), I dont reload 38/357 yet. I save all my brass for both calibers and I have powder for em but currently Im only set up to reload 45.

        Speer #14 shows 3.0 min to 3.4 max seated to 1.510 under a 158 LRN. Using Red Dot.

            I use 3.2 of red dot with 158gr lead bullet. It's a pleasure to shoot.

              Greetings:

              We appreciate the info regarding the 158 GR LRN using the Red Dot. We will go with the 3.2 Grains and that will give us 2,188 rounds per lb...we have the 5 lbs...that 10.940 rounds. We R Back In The Saddle Again! The grandson picked up his new 38/357 Lever Action Rifle this morning...so we will be at the range this week and blasting away with this new rifle and the S&W's.

              Thanks again for the info....we appreciate it.
