I have the opportunity to buy a Winchester model70 in 225 winchester for a very good price. Any thoughts on this obscure cartridge. I have never loaded this.

I checked Ken Waters Pet Loads Vol #1 for information on the cartridge.
Ballistically it is very similar to the 22-250 capable of sending bullets from 40-63 grains down range at some sizzling velocities.
Be sure to check the throat and rifling of the rifle for wear.
If you have a friend with a copy of Pet loads, Ken Waters did about five pages on this cartridge.
If the barrel is in good shape and it is an older Winchester for a good price, then go for it.

If it's a really good buy, go for it. If the barrel leade is eroded, consider setting the barrel back and rechamber it to .22-250 or perhaps .220 Swift.Comment

The .225 Winnie is a very capable "rimmed" varminter in its own right. Setting back barrel and rechambering to a "rimless" cartridge "may" cause feed issues.
No grass growing on the .225 as is.Comment

Technically the 225 is semi-rimmed and headspaces off the shoulder not the rim.
It is a good cartridge but brass will likely only get more difficult to obtain.
Making 225 from 30/30 is a bit of bother -
OP if you do get it I do have a box of brass available -Comment
