    Varget or IMR4895 at42gr & bullets 150gr-175
I like to stick with one powder charge and change the bullet.
    Keep it simple!

Perhaps a silly question, but did you make sure that your gas port valve is open on the M1a?

^What he said. Usually with Garands you have to be careful not to load to hot so you don't mess the oprod up.

Do a search around here. I posted loading data specifically for the Garand out of my Hornady manual.

OP, do you have any issues with other ammo not cycling the rifle?

Another area to check is the cleanliness of the gas cylinder and piston. The piston and plug are hollowed out to provide the correct volume for gas expansion. If there is too much carbon build up in the piston and/or plug the volume can be reduced to the point where there won't be enough gas available to cycle the action.

From reading the literature, the OP's load appears to be a bit light, but IMHO it should still cycle a properly functioning M14 type rifle.
