Not enough markings on RCBS Precision Mic

When I recently reloaded some 30-06 for my M1903A4, I noticed something very strange. When I screwed on the cap for the Mic to measure the ogive, it screwed on so far that it ran out of markings. Meaning, it went pass ALL markings on the base to measure with.

I had to "eye-ball it". After a while, I extended the baseline marking with a straight edge and a knife.

I don't have any pics because I shot all the ammo, but I will have some pics in the next few days.

Has anyone had similar experience with their own, or am I stuck with a lemon???

Not sure I understand what's happened--isn't the Precision Mic for measuring case headspace?

It does that, as well as measure the ogive.

I'm not familiar with the mic, but I wonder if it is like the mic for the Uniflow powder dispenser. That one has a set screw and slides on the shaft, so you can accurately set the zero, then lock it down. If not, best call or web chat with RCBS, they will get you straightened out.
