    224 69g HPBT & WC844

Did a search, no joy. So I'm askin.

I've got a pretty good load for some 224 62g SS109 equivalents using 24.5g of WC844. Sends @ 3125 FPS from my FAR with a 24" varminter BBL. I just bought a bunch of Nosler CC 69g HPBTs to make loads that can be used on long-range steel silhouette targets and am thinkin I would need to top out in the 23.5g to 24.0g range for these 69g bullets to get the approximate same velocity.

My Speer #14 Manual, page 205, shows 22.5g to 24.5g of H335 for a 224 70g Spitz SP. So I'm thinking I'm right in the ballpark with a 24.0g MAX.

    What you guys think?

The "reported" BC for the 62g SS109 equivalent bullet is 0.304, and the Nosler reported BC for the 69g HPBT is 0.305. So I'm thinking these can and will perform with fairly similar ballistics.

What do you consider long range?,and what twist is the barrel?IF your barrel is a 1:8 consider stepping up to bullets a little heavier ...73/75/77 &80gr.
    Keep it simple!

200 to 500 meters. I would prefer to shoot the 62g FMJs because that is the bullet and ballistics for which I want to practice at distance. But since I cannot do that on a steel target range I am loading with bullets that are able to be shot on that range and come somewhat close to the 62g FMJ ballistics. So I don't want to step it up to a 77 or so.

      BBL ROT is 1:9.

The WC-844 is very similar to ( but not the exact same as) H-335. I found the lot i had to be slightly slower. I used 25.0 gr of WC844 but only needed 24.4gr of H335 for a SS109 62gr bullet.
So you could use H335 data as a starting point, hodgdon lists a min of 22.0, max of 24.0 for a 69 grain bullet using .223 rem load data. I use military brass so YMMV
