4.7-4.8grs with 124gr bullet has been my load for years.

Pretty hot imo bud. My speer manual is 4.0-4.5 887-998 velocity but luckily you can push w231 to some extreme loads just seat the bullet a bit longer. I've loaded up to 4.6 and not more than that. 1.135 is the COAL tested. Hope the 231 I got ya works well for you. Load 10 rounds and test em and check for pressure signs. I seat at 1.400

I loaded some last weekend and ran them through three different rigs and they didnt seem stout at all. This is much older vintage powder mot mi
I think ill definetely go back down and work up again when I switch to the fresh stuff I got from you

4.7-4.8 with 115 rn
1.134 col on both.

Judging pressure from how they feel is no way to judge pressure.

Ive been loading 124 gr. Xtremes with 4.4 gr. of W231 at 1.145 OAL. That recipe worked great in all of my hand guns although that length seems to be pushing it a little in Glock hand guns. Recently I loaded 124's over 4.2 gr. of W231 with an OAL of 1.135 with good results. I still need to chrono this load and as long as it makes minor power factor, I don't see a need to load any hotter.

4-4.4 is an excellent load.

4 cycled everything from a Glock 26-Glock 34

4.2-4.4 was just perfect so I went 4.2 with same COAL

MountainFF, I think your 4.7gr of Win231 is too hot. Each weapon is slightly different, so you might have bbl's that allow you to seat out due to different throats which might lower to acceptable pressures...but then again you might not. Reading primers is usually a pretty good gauge, but it isn't an exact science, so there are possibilities that you are over pressure without flattened primers. In many manuals you are over maximum at 4.7gr. I personally I'd use 4.2gr seated to 1.135", but I have gone as high as 4.5gr. I dropped back to 4.2 due to its accuracy in my guns. But all said and done, I worked up to 4.5gr before backing down to 4.2. I would suggest that you go no higher than the max listed in reputable sources and only after working up to that max

Thanks for all the input, very much appreciated. This is old powder and as touchy as the subject of reading over pressure signs is, there are no flattened primers, no bulging case, no split case and my glock ejects pretty consistently and these are landing closer than my last load of 124grn xtreme bullets, 5.0 grns WSF. The felt recoil felt lighter than the WSF load listed above, federal factory ammo, and Jack Ross reloads. I seat almost all loads at Max overall cartridge length. I shoot quite a bit so less powder equals less money which equals more shooting so I think I will load a few more with a reduced charge and make sure they cycle before I load the remainder of this really old vintage 231 and as I said in an above post start all over again below Speers listed max of 4.5 and work my way back up again with the new vintage 231 I got from Mot Mi. thanks again guys!
