    Hornady rifle bullet feeder

Just did 1000 223 rounds using the Hornady rifle bullet feeder. I have to say I'm very pleased with it. It was easy to set up and adjust and worked flawlessly. It was easier to set up than the pistol bullet feeder and worked perfect. If you have the pistol bullet feeder you will need to install the stand for the rifle feeder to get it tall enough (the pistol stand is like 6" too short). I haven't tried using the rifle stand with the pistol hopper yet but I think I will be able to because the rifle stand height is adjustable.
Well, there aren't really any reviews out there on this product so I thought I would share my experience.

I would like a bullet feeder and the price is good for it. So are the pistol and rifle different or can you convert one to the other?

I just looked at it and this what I see. The actual hopper is the same as the pistol hopper minus the small rifle plate and the bushing that the feeder tube fits into in the hopper. Then the mount that comes with the rifle feeder must be used to get the correct height (about 6" taller than the pistol feeder mount). But the hopper height is now adjustable by about 6" which I believe should get you low enough to do pistol (just haven't tested that yet). So yes, I believe if you purchased the rifle bullet feeder you could just lower the hopper height, switch the plate and connect it to the pistol bullet feeder die like normal. I will be doing pistol reloading session soon so hopefully I can confirm what I think.

No problem. If you do decide to order it, Grafs was the cheapest I found at I think like $347 shipped.

I apologize for the misinformation I gave. I was too caught up in looking at the visual differences of the hopper and failed to realize that the rifle hopper has a different wiring set up than the pistol hopper. There is a power that goes into the hopper. Then wiring that goes out of the hopper to parts of the feeder drop tube which has a microswitch that turns on and off the hopper power. So you would need a pistol bullet feeder hopper in addition to the rifle feeder hopper to do a rifle to pistol change. sorry again.

I was able to use the rifle bullet feeder stand to do some pistol rounds today. Just loosen 2 bolts, slide the mount to the lower position, swap hoppers and you're good to go.
