    Reloading 300 Win Mag

    I'm on a roll!

Last week i had the Loading for Garand post going and the info was awesome.

Probably saved me at least a quarter pound in load development.

    I'm gonna try again.

Just got a Rem 700 in 300 Win Mag and I have Reloader 22

I'm not hunting with this but wanting to work up loads that once I have the time, I can get up to Sacramento and try my skill at maybe up to 1000 yards.

Are 168gr bullets heavy enough for that distance? If no, what are the recommendations out there?

I also have IMR4064 and IMR4895 but I suspect they might be too fast?

Not expecting spoon fed here, just a good starting point. I am more than willing to work up the load.

    Thanks in advance.

168 is a little light for the 300. It can be used, but it's not recommended, since it won't take full advantage of the 300 WM's capability.

I suggest the 190gr HPBT Sierra Matchking. That what we're using in our XM2010 and MK13 sniper rifles. Had some issues with the 220 gr, so we started to requisition DODIC A191, which is the 190gr SMK and we haven't looked back.

put the info into a ballistics calc and see if you have at least 1200fps at 1000.

You are correct, 4895 and 4064 are too fast to work well in the 300 WM, use the Reloader 22.

I've got a box of Sierra 190 MKs looking to find some H1000 to work up some loads.

              Thanks for the feedback.
Just ordered some SMK 190gr. Hopefully with my Reloader 22 I will find some loads.

I use Reloaded 22 and the Sierra 190 SMK. I use Winchester brass and standard large rifle primers. My Browning Abolt likes them.

I use 72.2gr RL22 with Hornady 208 AMAX with fantastic results. Of course, you'll have to do some load development but 208gr AMAX has coupled well with RL22 in my TRG-42.

                          I was just about to.

I'm up in Bay Area and have given up on the idea of any BLM. I keep hearing about Sacramento as my best option for distance.
