I just got a can of 5.45 but I think its missing the case type label on the cover of the can. It reads "5.45 NC" on the top line. Most other cans read something like "5.45 rc NC". Its my understanding that the capital NC stands for the bullet type, and the small rc stand for the case type of the shell that holds the powder. Being this can the top line only says "5.45 NC", the second line says "U49-82-539 CO33oa 149/82M". The U in front of the 49 is funny looking, and the O after the C has a slash through it, same as the o after 33. I believe the 539 means it came from Tula factory. Anyone have any ideas whats in the can?

I've seen that thread, thank you. I'll shorten my question. My can is missing the small case letters after the caliber. Anyone ever seen that or know why. I believe the small case letters stand for what type of casing it is. The top line of my can says "5.45 NC". that is all it says on the top line.Comment

I opened the can. I can't find any differences in the casings or slugs from a can that had "rc" inked on the lid. I removed a couple slugs, ground them down and cut them apart w/ wire cutters. Seems to be the same slug. The can marked w/ rc was manufactured in 77 I think. Its granules of gun powder are about twice the size of the can w/o rc which was from 1982 I think. I'm not sure if there is a favorable preference for the fine powder granules or the coarse ones? I'm eagerly awaiting a chance to go shoot to see if theres any noticeable differences there.Comment
