    cleaning nickel "brass"

I was looking for some 357 brass and remembered that 35+/- years ago I used to have quite a bit of it before I went to 9mm. I found it in the back of the garage in paper bags that have gotten wet over the decades. Probably 1,500 .38spl and another 350-400 of 357. All nickel plated stuff, but because the bags got wet there is some corrosion on them, nothing serious, it will still shoot

How do I clean it ? just put it in the vibratory with walnut shells ? I searched and read that i can't leave it in there with walnut shells too long or it will remove the plating, so is there a better way to clean it. Its pretty weird some cases look brand new and some have slight corrosion on them but were stored exactly the same way. I sorted out the worst of them yesterday and will throw them away. Wish it had been the other way around with more 357 then 38

Wet tumble, then tumble in walnut for 1 1/2 hr. Brass comes out smooth. If left in walnut too long plating will start to wear off.

I do a 50/50 mix of walnut and corn cob for about 3 hours. Yellow brass cases come out nice 'n' shiny. Nickel-plated cases come out looking like brand new.
