308 IMR 4064 load test sanity check

How do these charge ranges seem for my load test?

Gun: Browning A-Bolt Target 28" heavy barrel 1:10 twist.

    SMK 155, IMR 4064: 43.0 - 47.5

    SMK 168, IMR 4064: 41.5 - 46.0

    SMK 175, IMR 4064: 40.5 - 45.5

    SMK 190, IMR 4064: 39.0 - 43.5

Should I most likely find the most accurate load within those bounds? (Yes, I will check for pressure signs as I go).

Dan Newberry (Creator of the OCW method) lists the following as the general best loads in most guns:

    SMK 155, IMR 4064: 46.5

    SMK 168, IMR 4064: 44.5

    SMK 175, IMR 4064: 43.5

    SMK 190, IMR 4064: 41.0

You seem to be on a reasonable track, my preferences in most of my guns above.

You like them 190's hot, eh?

Any way to predict which will be the best bullet for my barrel?

I also have a few pounds of H4895. What would it be best used for?

I have used 46.3 grains of 4064 under a 155 Sierra Palma bullet for 1000 yard competition. I loaded them VERY long to reach the lands on my rifle's chamber.

        It worked well.

I'd have to have them seated less than a tenth in to the neck to do that, and then they don't fit the mag. And loading through the port is difficult because there virtually no ramp into the chamber. They pop up and in if stripped off the follower, but single loaded they get stuck.

                1. B/C 190s used in a different rifle with shorter barrel.
                2. Best bullet, twist rate and length will give you a GUESS. But, it varies based on your rifle and application. 168gr SMK works well for accuracy nearly universally. I use 168gr SMK for accuracy, but the 155gr Scenar or 175gr SMK for longer distances. There are many many bullets, those have done well for me.

You can't go to 45.5grs with 175's in Lapua Brass.

Update: I wrote to Dan Newberry (OCW creator) and he said my charge ranges should be shifted about one grain lighter. So with that... I will start loading.
