RCBS lockout die rocks :D

So I setup my LnL today on an Inline Fabrication strong mount. I also added their short roller handle. I just ordered the skylight kit and a swivel arm for 2 more bins.

Anyway, the RCBS lockout die is pretty damn sweet. It caught a few no-charges and a few under charges. I didn't have any overcharges. I'm glad I got this instead of the Hornady powder cop since I knew immediately when something was wrong.

Yup, I love it. Would never reload on a auto indexing progressive without it.

Agreed, the RCBS die is a life saver! Works very well, locks up the entire press if the charge is not correct.

Hang in there, you'll get it. My stations:
1) Resize and decap
2) Powder drop
3) RCBS Lockout Die
4) Seat (place bullet on top of case here...)
5) Crimp

For the powder drop, I got a different expander:

That also takes a little while to adjust but once it's correct there's no need to touch it.

Caliber swaps would be aided by getting a separate powder drop assembly & funnel for each of them - more $$$ and I haven't done it yet, but I will. Same thing with the lockout die (one for each caliber.) Theoretically a caliber swap would only take a minute.

When I drop the bullet, it tilts as it moves to the next station, making the die worthless. I might look into the powderfunnels. Right now I have to flare it more than the PTX will. This ^^^ I bought bullet feeder dies for 5 different calibers, along with 5 expander linkages. Complete PITA! I'm faster with just the casefeeder and manually placing a projectile on each case. Even with a powder check die in my setup, it's another means of QC.

I actually adjusted it so that my powder drop goes lower, now it flares enough so that the bullet doesn't tilt onto the next station. However, when I move the lever all the way down, the ptx touches the plate and moves the powder measure a little bit, hopefully this doesn't cause any issues.

OP, just curious what caliber you are loading and the powder charge? I use the RCBS lock-out die. I worked well to catch a no charge or double charge. Does not work so well to catch a 50% charge when loading .45 and .40. The difference in a 50% and 100% charge is not enough for the lockout to stop the press.

.45 ACP, 4.7gr of 700X

I was surprised myself that it caught the light charge. I confirmed by dumping the case contents, whether or not it found anything, into the hopper and sure enough, a little powder fell out.

The "bench top" method in the video was confusing to me.

You want the bottom of the die about 1/4" above the shell plate when the ram is fully raised.
With the desired powder charge in the case, adjust the plunger up or down until the white set line is even with the top of the die when the case mouth just contacts and starts the move the internal sleeve or "Die Case Lock" (part #2) in PDF. You need to look up under the die to see when the case contacts the Die Case Lock.

The bench top method is to get it close, then you fine tune it on the press like the video shows. That's how I did it anyway.
