    Ammo or rifle issue?

A couple of weeks ago I took my daughter shooting. I used my AR and I let her use the Mini14. We both used he same ammo, my reloads. 55gr fmjbt w/ cannula, 24.5 gr of H335.

I fire through the AR and I have no problems. My daughter on the other hand, has a fte almost every other round. They fire fine, and hit paper. I never had an issue with the mini before and it has a low round count.

Shoot some factory ammo in the mini.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

If the Mini 14 has a low round count, it may not be broken in yet. Fire some factory 5.56 ammo through it and see how it functions. I had problems with my M4 using .223 PMC bronze ammo, when I used Federal 5.56 everything was fine. Once it was broken in, I could use the PMC ammo without any issues.

Start by trying factory loads in the mini and see how it works. My ar15 is having similar issues, fires factory ammo fine but my reloads every other round or so has an ejection issue or the next round hangs up going into the chamber. I'm trying to find some different powder to try, not very happy with imr4198 for .223 rounds.

Can you better describe your fte? Are you getting stovepipes, not even getting that far?

Your load is similar to mine with 60gr hpbt. So unless you're loading them significantly long it should be similar. Do you have chrono data on your load?

It fires, but does not even try to eject. She didn't tell me there was a problem, lol. I checked on her and on the mat was the brass for half of the rounds I gave her to fire.

You need to teach her to check for a squib when that happens. She could have had a kaboom.

She is aware to stop firing, if the rapport sounds odd, or there is little or no kick.

If you have the Glock AR, it's from limp wristing.

The rifle in question is a mini 14.

Try some oil on the friction points next time out and see if that helps. Could just be that the powder, COL and Friction points are working together and not providing enough oomph to cycle the weapon. What primers are you using also? Some say that H355 likes the hotter primers but I don't know on that one. I do know that I am going to bump my 55gr FMJBT load up from 22.5gr of H355 to 24gr due to the occasional cycle issue in my AR. I use CCI standard primers but am switching to the Magnum primers to see if that helps.

CALGUNS DICTIONARY "FLIER": when a shooter wants to turn a 1 inch group to a half inch group because he flinched.

Is she small? Maybe she does not provide enough resistance for the rifle to properly operate.

It uses a piston. Her size should have no effect.

It sounds like there is an issue with the rifle. That reload combination should be enough to cycle a properly working action. I would do a full takedown, cleaning and lube on the mini14 and see if something is messed up. It could be a problem with the piston system, etc.

I forgot to mention, the primers are cci41's. I guess I can break it down, but it didn't seem mechanical. The brass ejected freely and easily when I chambered a new round.
