I am a recent addition to the reloading party. My wife got me the RCBS Rockchucker Supreme for last Christmas. The only powder I could find was Power Pistol and I have stayed with it for .38 Spl., .357 mag., and 9. So far it works.

I use 5.3 - 5.6gr of Power Pistol behind a 124 gr RN projectile and find my hand loaded rounds to be more accurate tha factory rounds.

Power pistol is my GTG powder for 9, 40, 45, 38,357. plus it meters great thru the Hornady LNL AP.

          6.6gr behind a 180gr X-treme RNFP for .40S&W is FANTASTIC!

          Same goes for 9mm:

6.5gr behind a 115gr Rainier plated RN and it's GO TIME!!!

What I find most interesting about PowerPistol and these loads is; despite being powerful loads (compared to W231, for example), they remain very accurate. I.E. Routinely 1-1.5" groups @ 20-25ft.

While there seems to be a Power Pistol following, just like there is for every powder type, I have heard the same cons about it as being a kinda dirty, flashy powder. Maybe not such a big deal to the most of us but to someone shooting out of their 5k gun doing comp. matches it is a thing to look at. I have sold more Titegroup the last 5 years than any handgun powder. I cannot help but take note of these claims. But I also jump on the opportunities to buy pallet loads of it [power pistol] when I get the chance because of the performance and variety of what it works with.... Just passing on what my customers say... I use 2400 in a magnum so I do not have personal experience with either.

Help me out here, Fetterly..... What's the point of your post? Please DO NOT mistake my directness for confrontation, it isn't. I'm asking what it is that you're getting at? Because, the average observer might look at your post, then your signature and then may connect a few dots to assume that you're simply trying to sell a product that you actually have in stock vs. one that you don't. You follow? If I'm barking up the wrong tree, my bad. I'm just not seeing any "suggestions" in your post outside of "don't use Power Pistol".

6.5 grains behind 115 grain Rainier? I thought I was pushing it with 5.8 behind my Rainier lol.

LOL, I did too! But, I'm below the max by a couple of tenths and really like it.

What's your oal? What load data are you using?

I've been loading plated with mostly lead bullet data fom lymans 49th. If you're at 6.5gr of Power Pistol, it sounds like its safe to push it further. I've been using 5.8gr of pp at 1.115 and that load has worked quite well in a variety of 9mms. Now I'm curious lol.

Out to 25 yards, it shoots about the same as any other powder ive used. At moderate loads, I didnt find it excessively loud or heavy recoiling.

On paper, it should be throwing bullets really fast. But my POI/POA doesnt seem different.

Downside, it sure uses a lot of powder. Less rounds per pound.

I'm running 1.14 OAL just to give me a little bit more leeway. Here's a link to the Alliant load data page with some (limited) info:

Don't misunderstand, this load has lots-o-pop! To quote J-Cat "It makes shooting 9mm not feel like being such a sissy". Personally, I love it. Though, it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to back it down to 6.2-6.3gr just to mellow it a bit.

Cool. I think I'm gonna have to try that out.

I was under the impression that you shouldn't load plated to fmj levels. Guess I was wrong.

Mr David-K. Thanks for posting your misunderstanding for all to read causing me to respond. [could have contacted me privately without possibly causing a stir] #1. I am simply stating the fact that as popular as it may be amongst so many, here may be a couple problems[ flashy, dirty to some]. #2 I do not need to advertise Titegroup and try to sell it. It sells itself. Most of us would agree to that. #3 For years I have been told these characteristics about P.P. and thought I would share a little info that I have been given over the years. New to C.G. but I thought that's what this was about, sharing what you know...
P.S. I would prefer 231 vs. p.p. due to its cleanliness.[ 231,not in stock]

Thanks for clarifying, Doug. No stir was caused, I asked and you responded, removing any question with regard to what your suggestions were or were not, or what people may or may not have thought. That's exactly what CG is about.

I too like W231/HP38 (sadly, it appears to be the purple unicorn these days) and use it exclusively for my .45ACP rounds (230FMJ 5.7gr @ 2.70 OAL). Though, I keep hearing that a number of outlets will have it soon....

With regard to Power Pistol being dirty; I have to disagree. At least at the level/charge with which I'm using it. It seems that if you push it a little, my experiences have been pretty clean. Now, as far as flash goes....... No doubt about it. It will light up even the most brightly lit indoor ranges. But, for some anyway, that's part of the fun
