I don't know about the rest of you, but I was completely bummed when Hornady quit shipping their Shellplates for the AP press in the nice plastic storage boxes. Now they come in a std. plastic blister pack. I called Hornady and they said they can no longer get the plastic storage boxes anymore.
I have recently purchased a few more plates and wanted an easy way of storing them so I decided to make my own out of an old floppy disk holder, (fat chance I will ever use it again) 2 sheets of styrene and a couple of bolts.
1) 1st thing I did was to figure out how many plates I thought I need for now and in the future. Then I started planning the spacing and shapes.
2) I cut out 12 dividers out of 2 sheets of styrene that I picked up at the local hobby shop for around $7.
3) Then I drilled holes in the box for my indexing bolts to go through
4) After the holes were drilled an the dividers were made I started slipping the bolt through the polystyrene tubing and dividers.
5) Once you get all of them through, tighten up the nut on the back side.
6) Repeat for the other side
7) I decided to make an index in the lid and number the dividers for easy identification.
The shellplates will slip over the tubing as an index bar and since it is plastic, it will not damage the shellplate. Once the shellplates are in their location, it is as simple as grabbing the 2 ears that are sticking up to access your new plate.
I know I could keep them on a wooden dowel or hooks, but this case protects them and keeps them organized. I can also see what I need for the next shopping list.
