00 shot question

I have an old (1970's), empty, Federal 12 guage 00 buck ammo box (5 rnd) and the box is stamped LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY. Father was CHP and I think this was originally with his riot gear.

But I see 00 buck in the stores. Was there a time when 00 buck was LEO only? Or was there something different about this ammo?

To answer the question, OO has always been legal to own and use.

East coast hunters have been prohibited from hunting with rifles for a long time in many areas so shotguns with slugs and sometimes OO have been used to hunt.




Frequently one finds ammo marked LEO or US Mil that was an overrun or failed to meet specs and was sold to the civilian market.

No never. The ammo your dad was paid for by our tax dollars. The Lord markings were to keep tax dollar funded ammo from finding its way to retail shelves or gun shows. IE stolen ammo
