    Tumbling media

For you reloaders out there. Don't waste your precious dollars on expensive media. McMaster Carr has tumbling media Walnut/Corn cob for great prices, especially when bought in bulk. I called and they said shipping is around $7.50 for a 15lb box and around $18.00 for the 50 lb bag.

    Walnut

    15 lb. = $16.67

    50 lb. = $33.67

    Corn Cob

    10 lb. = $13.67

    40 lb. = $25.56

Another suggestion is to go to your local feed store and buy a 50# bag of ground walnut ( they sell it for bird litter I think) Its a hell of a lot cheaper than buying the big name stuff.

Livermore Feed & Supply has ot for the same price - and no shipping.

So if you have a local feed store, check them out. You might save even more than you already are.

I got mine from Walmart in the pet department. It was an 8lb bag for $8 or $9 and no shipping charges.

If you want McMaster Carr, you could just go to their warehouse and do a will-call.

For what it's worth, while on the subject of buying media at local feed stores...

A number of people have noted that the corn cob media you can get at many local feed stores is too coarse and will stick in the necks of .223. When I was at a local shop (Concord Feed & Pet Supply), they said they could special order 50 lb sacks of a finer than usual grind (1/16" instead of the normal 1/8" if I recall) - same price as the regular stuff, but a 2-3 week wait.

I find walnut does the trick just fine, even if it's not as shiny. It's less expensive and it's available every day (and I have 30+ pounds sitting in my garage).

Yup, the corn cob media from Petco is too large and gets stuck in the necks of .223 PITA to get it out.

Ah, but their walnut media that comes in the 25 lb. bags works quite well, and does not stick in my .223 brass. Not the cheapest around, but convenient.

I like tufnut media. Cleans and shines all at once plus it last forever.

How often should you change out your media? I've had the same walnut stuff in my tumbler for the past year or so.
