    Redding Competition Dies

    Hello All,

This topic has been covered - but there's a warning message for reviving old threads - so -

I was wondering if those in the forum that have used the competition dies from Redding could chime in on how their reloading experience went with the dies.

    Is is worth it?

I just ordered #58111 from MidwayUSA:

Brownell's has it a little cheaper:

Browse 400+ Reloading Dies Products including Rifle Reloading Dies, Handgun Reloading Dies, & Reloading Die Parts & Accessories from premium brands including Hornady, Lee Precision, Lyman, and more!

Plus I ordered the associated bushings from Midway.

I am working on building up some precision rounds for my son - in case anyone was wondering.

    Thanks,
    jwest

I use only these dies for rifle. Worth every penny, but the type S sizing die is probably not necessary for .223. The neck bushing that are required for setting neck tension aren't nearly as important for .223 since there isn't much variance in neck thickness among .223 brass. I'd go with the comp seater, for sizing, regular non-bushing dies work fine if you want to save a bit.

I got the same die but in 308 and it's worth the money. The only gripe I have about them is that for that amount of money, the bushing should be included.

I had only good experiences with Redding Competition Dies. It is so easy to adjust the seating depth, and the ammo came out very consistent.

            Redding Competition Dies

The competition bushing dies are overkill for semis and most bolt rifles. They're only useful for benchrest guns with custom sized chamber reamers or for reloaders who want to control how much length the neck gets sized.

I own and use Redding, Forster and Whidden seating dies. They all seat bullets in straight consistently.

IMHO opinion yes they are worth it - are they necessary no, but they make life so much easier especially with the micrometer on the seating die.

if you are unsure about spending the money just get the competition seating die.

I liked them so much, I have the .308, 22-250 and the .223 seating die.

Forster makes bench rest dies that do not uralize the micrometer adjustment. They are top notch dies as good or better than Redding.money can be saved on EBay looking for them under the Bonanza name. Bonanza was bougbt by Forster.

Geez. They're dies. If you like them, buy them. A year from now you won't be able to remember how much you paid for them.

I use the redding comp for my seating die on .308

Love how easy it is for slight tweaks.

Redding makes the second best dies you can buy.On the bushings get two sizes above and below your ideal size and a bushing box for the ones not left in your dies.
The only problem with Redding dies is when you buy dies for the longer cartridges they no longer fit in the box they came in.In the picture below you can see how I needed to modify the box.

(I'm going to guess they are some sort of Wilson dies used in conjunction with an arbor press)

If you get a Warner Die that fits your chamber you can't get anything better.

Once I get to that level of die set I just get what I need and usually don't buy complete sets... The competition seating being my favorite but I typically get the Forster Ultra Micrometer seater die.

I use the Redding body die when needed, and a lee collet neck sizing die for sizing the neck.

The results down range speak for themselves but I love that Lee die. Considering the price its on the complete opposite range of the spectrum and works great.

Biggest advantage aside from convenience of having the micrometer was the seating stem matched my bullet profile better than my RCBS dies did and gave me more consistent measurements from the ogive.

I also very much like the bullet guide and floating body in the die. Produced great results.
