    Barnes MRX

the Barnex MRX bullets claim to give good expansion at "short" and "long" ranges. Which implies that the TSX don't expand well at "long" ranges.

anybody know what range the TSX's start to lack expansion?

The MRX uses tungsten to increase its density. The difference they are talking about is a difference in terminal velocity... the denser round has a better BC and looses less velocity over a given distance.

Barnes publishes their BCs so you can see what kind of velocity you get at different distances. IIRC these guys don't expand fully if the terminal velocity is below ~1500fps

What caliber and cartridge are you considering?
According to this CDC document the firearms related death rate has been surpassed by the poisoning death rate.

Time for an assault drain-cleaner ban?

      Marketing Ploy

Barnes would love for your to buy bullets that cost over $2 each. There is a video around of Barnes pitching to Ca dfg stating their TSX is the most accurate bullets made , all their bullets cost the same as lead, and 22lrs are old pieces of garbage. Barnes employs liars just like everyone else.

i haven't really dug into Barnes' role in the lead-free issue. At this point it doesn't really matter, lead-free is here to stay and there aren't many options right now.

          Merritt:
sorry to clarify i was talking about the Tipped-TSX, not the regular TSX. i am using a 308 Kimber bolt gun. i found the bc's for 150 gr mrx and tipped tsx and they are the same 0.42, so not sure what to do. any thoughts?

            Barnes

I found it through Barnes web site a while back. Their presentation sparked some controversy and seemed to show more of an interest in pro-sales than pro-hunting. It was to the point that they have stated they would have liked to restate their position and then had to make a formal letter announcing their position. Here in Ca, Barnes is bad for hunting!!!
Here's the link, the video is under Aug 27,07 and barnes schpeal is twards the end, http://www.cal-span.org/cgi-bin/media.pl?folder=CFG
