    Hornady curtomer service.

I just put a case feeder on my LnL AP. I didn't like the way the sub base was hitting the bracket that holds the tray, so I ground a little off with my Dremal.
That didn't solve the problem and looked really ugly, so I tried to buy a new one from Hornady.
The girl said, "no problem. but we're going to flag your name, and in the future you might not be eligible for warranty repair because you've modified your machine".
So guys...if you do anything to a Hornady product in an effort to improve it...don't admit it to any of them.

Why would you expect them to foot the bill for something you choose to modify?

I had a similar conversation. The Case feeder's hopper opening didn't line up correctly with the funnel. The opening opened too far to the right and many times the cases would hit the right edge of the funnel opening and tumble into the funnel upside down. I called and asked what to do and they said to send the whole case feeder in and they would fix it. Not wanting to be down a case feeder for a while I asked if I could rotate the hopper body by elongating the mounting holes and if that didn't do the trick to then send it in and he said if I did that it would no longer be covered under any warranty. So, I added a little piece of cardboard to the hopper opening to bring the opening over to the left. At least this way if I ever feel like it I can send it in under warranty.

Naturally, I did not expect them to foot anything, I wanted to purchase the part.

I've read of many folks moving the hopper.
Some companies are looking for an excuse to deny warrenty service.
I've always been a booster of Hornady's...a fan boy, but no more.

It must be getting expensive shipping all those free parts! Hornady doesn't build an extra $100 into the price of the LNL, to pay for all those FREE parts, like you know who....

Personally, I think there should be a reasonable length warranty regarding manufacturing defects, and if you're a mechanical midget and break it; you should pay to fix it. Don't spread the cost of the mechanical midgets to the people that actually have a clue....

It's pretty much a standard standard practice in EVERY industry. When you modify a product in a way that the manufacturer never intended...you void the warranty. They have no idea what you've done to your press or if it will cause other issues down the road. You can't really expect them to be on the hook for that.

Lets put this in car terms. If I installed a supercharger, bigger fuel injectors, and modified the ECU in my truck(hmm that actually sounds interesting) and it blew up the transmission. When I go to toyota to buy a new trans and I tel them "yeah I think it grenaded because of all the extra HP" I wouldn't expect them to warranty so much as a lightbulb on it. The fact that I'm "buying" the new trans doesn't magically make it ok. What happens when the differential gives out? Or when I blow a head gasket because of the increased compression? Are they supposed to cover that because I bought a transmission?

I'm really surprised that you're surprised by this.

next time tryo to fix it yourself and THEN if you havent corrected the problem, call HORNADY and let them know it doesnt work according to the operation manual and they will fix it at no charge, its not like they are going to ask for the broken part back for inspection anyways, at least thats what i do and have been getting free parts since!

In all my calls besides the case feeder call with Hornady they have always been very happy to send me out any replacement parts that I have needed and helped me diagnose any issues I have had. I would say their customer service is great. I've received many misc. parts over the years no questions asked. And a couple times the replacement parts sent were things that were my damaged by my own fault.

Your comparison seems a mite exaggerated.
I cosmetically damaged a minor part. I called to order a replacement, and was told no more warranty.
Once the replacement was installed, the machine would be as good as new. But I'm still flagged a one who tampers with stuff.

This is my second case feeder, installed on my second LnL.I've delt with Hornady's cs many times. Always a good experience...until now.

So...let me get this straight. You admitted to tampering with something(and doing a piss poor job of it), and now you're upset that you have been flagged as someone who has tampered with their product.

I'm not sure which you should be more ashamed of. Your decision to do a hack job of a mod, the fact that you copped to it, or your childish reaction to the consequences of your actions.

Lesson learned on not giving additional, unneeded information. If you wanted to buy a certain part, just buy it, you don't need to tell them your story.

It sucks they voided the warranty though when you're basically trying to restore the machine back to stock.
