Leading in 9mm barrels

I got some 9mm hard cast 125 GRAIN TCN bullets from MASTERCAST BULLETS LLC ...the bullets measure at .356

i loaded a few with 4 grains of win 231 ...Overall length is 1.076 ..necks are .378

standard primers

so...after just 10 to 15 shots i have leading ...seems to be streaked all the way down the barrel...i tried 2 different pistols with same results

at 1st i was trying an overall length of 1.087 but the cartridges would stick out of battery so i shortened it and they chamber now

any ideas?

the lube on those purchased bullets is terrible. Always leads for me.
Best solution: powder coat them. see the threads here on CGN or at castboolits.
Second best, pan lube them with a home made pan lube. Beezwax and parafin and a little olive oil to soften it up works well for me.
third best solution: lee liquid alox. Also the easiest solution. doesn't always work though.
They are probably sized at .355 as well. Too small. I size my 9mm bullets at .358 Not much you can do about that though unless you start casting them yourself.

I once bought 1000, 9mm hard cast from bulletman911.
I got leading along the grooves of my barrels.
After I got into casting my own I learned why.
I ended up pulling 600 one night.
I melted them down and now have some good mixing alloy.
The lead bullets are to hard and to small.

I have loaded plenty of mastercast and sns casting bullets without any leading problems. If his barrel is .356, which is entirely possible, then the bullets would be too small since he said they measure .356. The only way to tell is to slug the bore since barrels can vary. The other thing is if you apply too much crimp, you can undersize the bullet and that will cause leading.

I have loaded plenty of mastercast and sns casting bullets without any leading problems. If his barrel is .356, which is entirely possible, then the bullets would be too small since he said they measure .356. The only way to tell is to slug the bore since barrels can vary. The other thing is if you apply too much crimp, you can undersize the bullet and that will cause leading.

I might try easing up on the crimp to .380

Just add enough crimp to get rid of the bell. You can take your barrel out and do the plunk test. Adjust the crimp until the round just drops right in the barrel. Then make a few dummy rounds without primer or powder and check to see that they chamber from the magazine.

1.076 seems a tad long to me, but then again I have never loaded a TCN.

I have however loaded some other 125 9mm bullets with 231, and my first though would be to push them faster... IIRC I had bad leading in both the lower end and when I was pushing them too fast, with great results in the middle.


edit; a quick check of my Lyman cast book and you are loading long but with out knowing the mold, hard to know for sure... I wouldn't load much past 1.050 myself, unless....

well the company that makes the bullet suggested a 1.0875 length but i had to go a tad shorter

The maker of the bullet said to use any lead data of the same grain...after looking at that site and a bit of research i came up with 4.0...but after the leading I did read that raising the load might take care of the leading But I am still researching at this time...I keep playing phone tag with the guy that makes them
