    Tight primer pocket

I've been reloading .308 for a while, using all sorts of junk brass. I figured I would get some better brass and keep reloading that one alone for consistency purposes, so I bought a box of Lapua. Loading it the first time went well (made some good 1500 yard shots ).

Now, when I want to reload the brass the 2nd time around, all primer pockets are really tight. It's not easy at all to get the primer in. I never had this problem with the junk brass.

Why could this be happening? Would the RCBS primer pocket swager help?

That should do the job. Slowest of the swaging types, however if you only have a few to do not bad. If you would like to try one before buying let me know(PM). I am in Fullerton.

Thanks for the offer, but now I'm not sure anymore if I can use the RCBS swager. I don't have an RCBS press, only Lee and Hornady. Would this work? If no, is there any other swager that works with those two?

Post up a review of your experience with it when you get it going.

I've concluded that I will get one of these when the need arises and I run out of milsurp ammmo.

Just work the die slowly down when setting it up. You can easily bend rims if
                You aren't paying attention.

Try priming with a spent primer when you think you have enough swage.

Actually I ordered only the swage kit. I'm cheap, and I'm happy with my current priming process.

I don't think you understood what I was trying to say. Maybe I wasn't being clear enough.

I'm talking about the swage kit.

Whatever method you choose to prime with, test out your freshly swaged piece of brass with a spent primer to make sure you swaged enough. There is definitely a different feel compared to other swagers on the market.

It would suck to swage 2k pieces of brass, only to find out you didn't swage deep enough.

                        they make this one also.

the other will work on a Lee or Hornaday depending on which press you have.

the one you mentioned will work if the base around the shellholder is flat. you need about 1 1/2 in diameter of space. it will not work on a progressive.

How does a primer pocket get tighter after one firing?

This is what I would really want to figure out. They all got tighter, not just a few

I've noticed this from time to time on my .308/7.62 PPU and CBC brass. Thought it might be dirty primer pockets but nope, even after wet tumbling post depriming I still have a few that seemed to have un swaged themselves.
