Best .223 Lee Trimmer MOD ever?!?!?

The case and shell holder kept getting loose from the lock stud during my trial of this Lee as an alternative to my Lyman that the ram bushing slipped out of.

I think I can get it a bit tighter now just with my hands, we shall see during the next trimming session...

The guy who got this done for me owes me a few favors for computer work, and coughed up $25 for his machine-shop guy to make this happen...

Does anyone use these Lee trimmers, or something better than a neck-indexing, or bench-trimmer?

I use the lee trimmer, works great for 308, hate it to death for 223. I have noticed if it is not cranked down extremely tight the 223 shells like to slip and eject from the lock stud with some authority, usually resulting in slamming the drill into my off hand. I keep a rag and vise grips handy to crank the heck out of it. But I will be upgrading to a lathe style trimmer before too long.

Nice design idea. It beats the heck out of using vice grips.

Great idea. I've worn my pointer finger raw trying to keep that collar tight. Might have to steal then idea. Thanks

The best mod I ever did was throw it in the spare parts bin after getting a WFT.

I got one of those. I ended up just holding the .223 case while trimming. My fingers hold it better than that thing does.

I originally wanted to drill and tap it myself (which I have never done), but Lowe's doesn't sell tap&Die sets in-store any longer... so I opted for a professional to do the job right.

Hell, Lowe's site isn't really working at ALL right now for most functions. Their site is always whacked!

I flattened sides on mine and use an open end box wrench to tighten and loosen mine

I gave up on the holder and trim them in-hand. It seems (much) faster. More accurate too to mixed headstamp. Not having to sort by head stamp saves time too when you have tons of cases.
