Steel penetrator ammo

I was looking for some bullets for reloading .223 and I came accross some bullets that the company claims are m885 projectiles (green tip), but the tips weren't green. They are claiming that the green tip is paint applied after production is complete. Is there truth to this claim?

Check with a set of dykes. The steel penetrator will not be easy to cut through.

I've bought thousands of SS109 bullets without green paint on them. I even have a couple thousand that are chrome or nickel plated. I forget which.

I think so, I mean the Aussie's SS109 aren't even green, they're just pointy ... real pointy

Yes they are painted after production.

IIRC the reason military ammo comes with green tips is so that the soldiers could tell it was M855 and not M193. Some countries never had anything but M855 so they didn't paint. And paint is applied afterward.
