I just got an expander iron for loading 50BMG and I'm sold on it. I'm going to have to get a bunch of small ones for loading lessor calibers now. Once I get them, I can shuck-can all my expander balls! If you decide that you don't like using expander balls and you are willing to add another step to your loading proccess, get some K&M expander irons. You won't regret it.

I use Lyman m dies without pushing the case all the way to the step.
Does the same thing, basically just expanding on the down stroke instead of the up stroke.

        Case necks?

I ordered a case length gage to check the rounds and when it arrived the cases stuck out of the gage a couple of thousandths.

question- When I resized them is it possible for the expander to pull the case out of spec?

Do you need to lube the inside of the case neck? What is the best way to do it?

Just trying to figure out what went wrong and I still have to pull down 45 rounds of ammunition
I always lube inside the case necks. The sizer can pull the necks out of alignment if you don't. I use a bore brush stuck in a wooden dowel.
I use an aerosol case lube. The instructions say to spray at a 45 degree angle...to assure that the lube gets in the necks.
When you raise the handle of the press...you can really tell the difference between lubed necks or not.

After re sizing, I clean the cases with acetone to remove all case lube...inside and out.
