Impressed with Accurate No 7

Been using AA#7 for Xtreme 115gn 9mm bullets. Depending on the gun I will go somewhere between 7.0 thru 7.5gn.

Has anyone used AA#7 for .45 ACP? I have 2 lbs of this stuff and have been debating on trying it for .45 ACP. Reading all these posts has really peaked my curiosity here. I'm using 200 grn (P) RAIN RN 9.9 Starting load 873 fps 11.6 Max load 1,045 fps 20,500 max pressure 1.269 OAL thats from Accurates' load data page. Im just looking for some input here not trying to jack the thread. Thank you in advance.

Newbie, I have only tried No7 in 9mm, hopefully someone else will chime in with information on 45ACP and No7. No worries about hijacking the thread, we are learning from each other.

Thanks Skernie, I loaded about 24 rounds of .45acp at 10.5 grains, I want to get a feel for how this powder cycles in my 1911. At 10.5 grains I am at midpoint of the load, I don't have a chrono yet but I hope to have one very soon, then I can really get some good data. Thanks again.

UPDATE= The rounds cycled very well no stove piping of failure to ejects. It shot way better than the rounds I had loaded with 800X, a lot cleaner and a better group now Im going to work up a load with this stuff, +1 for AA #7.

I use 7.8gr of AA#7 with a 124gr RN and it shoots great.

Today's report

Ok I just got back from the range.

Here's how the test worked out.

AA.7 Rainier 115 JHP Beretta 92

6 grains The third round failed to eject. Load is light on ejection and recoil.

6.5 grains All cases ejected, load is light, accuracy about normal for this gun and shooter.

7 grains Nice smooth ejection, well centered shots with some vertical stringing.
This was the best load overall.

7.5 grains Positive case ejection, stiffer recoil, group is starting to open up.

8 - 8.5 - 9 grains As you can imagine recoil and case ejection was getting more brisk with each increase. Groups on the target were all over the place at 9 grains.

I'm sure that the Rainier bullet had reached the sweet spot at seven grains.
Loads at nine grains were reminiscent of my old Bluedot loads running into the 1200 plus fps range. However I was doing that with Sierra bullets.

Here's the kicker. Despite having felt some heavy recoil none of the primers were flattened. So this powder works very well in the 9mm and could benefit from using better bullets than the Rainier.

I may try a retest with some Zero bullets staying between 7 to 8 grains.

Not a scientific test, just observations from my shooting today.

I am glad to hear that you had some very good results using AA No.7, your sweet spot was not too far from where mine was (only.03) not too bad at all. I think I will jump up to around 7.0 grains and see how those work for me.

Now that you have done your test, what is your opinion on AA #5 VS AA #7? I am still pretty new at reloading so I can use all the advise I can get.
