    Another question .308

I picked up a box of Hornady 150 grn RN Interlock
In my case prep I trimmed the brass to 2.005
I will be using IMR 4064
I did a dummy round and set the OAL at 2.52 (Length per Hornady manual)but in doing so I find the casing only catches about half the Cantalure.
Will these be okay for my test loads?
Or should I use these cut cases for some other type bullet?

Lee shows the starting loads at 43grns
Hornady shows starting load at 40grns

Adding to this question, should I even be using these round nose in my Savage Bolt action rifle??

Yes you don't have to seat to the cantalure. I do it all the time
Good friends will come bail you out of jail. A best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying damn that was fun!

Don't worry about the cannelure being in the wrong place. 308 is a common projectile size and the cannelure may very well be located for a different cartridge. As long as it is seated securely, it's fine.

When i load Hornady 150gr fmjbt, the cannelure is above the casing.

You do not need to use the cannelure, but I is not a bad idea. You also do not need to use round nose bullets, you could find better accuracy with a spitzer type bullet. Experiment and see. Each rifle is different.

Yeah I grabbed these when I saw them mainly because .308 has been a bit hard to find. Now I have 100 and might as well use them

Grafs has plenty of 150gr FMJ for $23/100 and cheaper if you buy in bulk.

Don't worry about the cannelure unless you are crimping.

My Lyman 45th Edition loading manual lists 43gr of 4064 as the starting load for a 150gr jacketed bullet. FYI, I used to shoot a .308 match rifle and my load was the Sierra 168gr HPBT, 40gr of IMR 4064, and Winchester primers and brass. Lyman lists that as a "starting load" too, but it was very accurate. Often the most accurate load for a given rifle is not the hottest. You have to try different loads and find out what your gun likes.

I had a great weekend shooting .308 168gr Nosler Comp HPBT loaded with 42.4gr of Varget.

But like hanover67 said ''You have to try different loads and find out what your gun likes.''

44gr of BL-C(2) under a 150gr sp shot to the same point of aim and cycled perfectly in my brother's FAL. couldn't tell the difference between that and American eagle factory ammo. can't complain really.
