I need a new powder funnel

I just started reloading. I picked up a lee powder funnel .22-.45cal size. I tried to load powder from the scale's pan into a 9mm case in a loading block and all the damn powder spilled through the sides.

What should I get for single stage loading from pan weighing charges to the cases in a loading block?

I use a similar funnel when loading 30-06, never had powder spill out the sides, are you pressing it all the way down?

      A powder measure.
Alternatively, if you are using lee dies, you could charge the case when expanding, since it is a powder through die.
I loaded precisely 50 rounds with a powder scale before I bought a powder measure.
Get your measure set using the scale, then throw all the charges right into the cases in the block. Check a few to see if they powder measure has moved.

There is no real reason to measure every case with pistol rounds, especially 9mm. Rifle rounds for accuracy, sure.

All that said, my RCBS funnel worked great, but I haven't used it for reloading since I bought a powder measure.

the rcbs one I have hasn't had any problems. There is usually a little collar or lip inside that goes around rifle mouths just in case. I've used the rcbs plastic funnel for 9mm, 38 and 40.
        good luck

I'm sorry, but three years here and you can't pour powder into a 9mm case?

          Please provide video proof.

Best one out there is the Satern aluminum funnel.

              .

These are my first rounds ever, so I'm kinda anxious. Right now i'm use a dipper into the scale to see how consistent I can be. Right now my hand dips from a .5cc dipper give me about 3.2-3.6 grains of universal clays. It seems after I dump powder into the case, it always ends up being less after the re-weigh, sometimes only 3.0 grains. I am afraid of squibs but I don't want to guestimate an overcharge to compensate.

I have the same problem. Had to be careful about centering a .223 case on a RCBS plastic funnel. I want the Satern but never bothered to buy it. I rolled my own out of some brass shim stock and it works nice, but isn't as pretty as the Satern. If you are going to buy one buy the Satern.

Good, don't do that. You don't bump charges for inaccuracies in method, that's how you start popping primers. Method is always more important than charge weight because eventually you'll learn how to nail the charge weight you want. Refine the method, buy the right funnel. Also buy a Lee Perfect Powder measure. They work GREAT and are cheaper than some fancy burgers.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

run a dryer sheet over the funnel to remove static. This should help the powder slide down into the case without spilling.

Satern makes caliber specific funnels that work great for rifles.

My point was the powder measure is accurate enough. Weighing every case on a digital scale isn't too bad. I used a balance beam and it took something like 3 hours to load 50 rounds.
A powder measure will change your world!
If money is a problem, the Lee powder measure is only about $25. However I like my RCBS powder measure with stand. It was closer to $80 when I bought it.
The hornady one looks nice too for a few bucks less.
Reloading is agonizing without certain tools.

You get what you pay for, though, consider one that's transparent since it's easy to see if/where it's ****ing up.

hold the brass in your hand while using the funnel... actually hold the brass in the bottom of the funnel. 9mm brass is pretty short and most funnels will hit a loading block before hitting the case mouth.

also the Satern funnels are great but they are caliber specific and IMHO the only one needed is a .22 caliber, as anything larger a regular funnel will work just fine.

Using a funnel on 9mm in a loading block will result in a loading block hole being charged with half your powder.

I have the Satern .30-.50 cal universal funnel and I still have to pick the 9mm or .45 shell out of the loading block to get it seated into the bell of the funnel. No real problem with .38s though. It's the length of the pistol cases. The .38s (and longer) allow you to press the funnel onto the case mouth and down into the loading block. This seals the edge and avoids spills.

The Satern caliber specific funnels for rifles are the cat's meow! They are better than having a 3rd hand while measuring/weighing individual charges. They just sit securely on top those rifle cases. Now I gotta order my 6mm one. The only downside is you have a funnel for every bore size.

Weird. I have a random funnel I just found which works fine. I also have an RCBS which I often use. Never had a problem, even loading .380s.

Make sure (as noted above) that they're pushed all the way up into the funnel.
