    Best source for bullets?

Who has the best deal on bullets?

    I'm looking for 9mm and .45

These will just be used for plinking and range use, and I'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible. This will be my first foray into reloading. I've got the cases (saved over the last few months), Primers and powder. So I just need some inexpensive bullets and I'll be ready to start.

    Thanks

You're looking for inexpensive bullets, so I'm gonna assume you're okay with lead bullets. I use Stonewall Bullets. He's a bullet-caster based out of Louisiana. On some other forums, there've been some bad things said about his bullets. Yes, they're sticky (he uses Lee Alox lube) and they're not the smoothest bullets around, but they've never tumbled on me.

Oh, and you might want to write him and have him hold some bullets of whatever it is you're looking for, because he's currently sold out on most of his stuff.

I haven't shot lead bullets other than in my 22. Obviously they are a lot cheaper but, are there any advantages or disadvantages I should be aware of?

        Berry's plated bullets

Lead may lead to Leading of the barrel if the load is too hot or the bullet too soft. Plated bullets reduce that risk.

I put a box of lead bullets through my SIG P228 about 12 years ago...afterwards, my barrel was so foul and the cleaning was such a pain in my arse that I decided it just wasn't worth the effort. I will never use lead bullets in any of my pistols again.

            Bullets?

My brother in law and I shoot IPSC and reload 45 and 9mm we usually get Bear Creek Moly Coated Lead bullets. I believe Frank just got his shipment a couple of weeks ago at Irvington Arms. That's where I've been getting mine.

+1 for Bear creek Moly coated lead. I've pushed these bullets to 1350 fps with no leading and a lot less smoke than plain lead bullets. My load was about 8.5 gr of Power pistol in a 40 S&W case, 140 gr RN (.40 cal obviously) shot out of a 6.5" 610 Classic. They were a tad snappy but as I said, they didn't lead the bore at all. Most of the time I shoot these in the range of 950 to 1000 fps (minor loaded) or 1150 fps in 9mm. Also no leading at all for that application. If you've shot plain lead before, give these a try, they are like night and day.

I like Precision Bullets. I've been using their 200gr SWC in .451 for a long time. I use their 170gr in .40, too.

I've not used the Missouri bullets, but I've heard that they're some of the best lead bullets around.

As for the use of lead bullets:

                  1. You shouldn't use them in barrels with polygonal rifling.
                  2. You will need to use them in a certain velocity range. If the lead is going too slow, then the pressure won't cause the bullet to spread out and gas will creep up the sides and cause heavy leading as the gas melts the sides of the bullets. If the lead is going too fast, then the rifling will strip some lead off the bullet and you'll get heavy leading.

With the prices of lead and copper nowadays, I don't personally see any good deals out there on components. Hoping things improve in the near future...

Montana Gold Bullets and Zero Bullets are what more than 80% of USPSA shooters at the national levels shoot. And they're a decent price for jacketed.

I've been going to Montana Gold for my 9mm FMJ and JHP. They are about $92 / 1000. They also have a pretty big discount if you buy 4000.
