    breakfree and bullets

sometimes i find a little gun lube on my top round of the mag after they've been sitting in the pistol for a while.

is there any way that the lube can get inside and dud the primers?

Very very unlikely. I have shot primers with wd-40 and that still doesnt always kill them.

About 15 or 20 years ago while working on the job, the range put out info about just this subject. We were told not to use WD40 or any other penetrating oil to clean our rounds. At the time we were using .357 Silvertips

The information given to us was they had an individual who was rather
ana* about how shiney everything was. So he had been polishing his rounds with WD-40.

How long he had been doing this I am uncertain, I cannot remember how often they had us fire the issued service rounds instead of wad cutters.

Apparently when he went back to the range most of his rounds would not fire. They made it sound to us that it was caused by lubricant getting into the casing and saturating the powder.

I personally never worried about it as they could barely get me to shave let alone polish my brass but I find these two conclusions interesting.

Yeah, getting the powder wet would be a very bad thing. The primers can take WD-40, but I don't think powder can.

I agree with above poster. The WD-40 will do more harm to the powder than the primer. Keep the rails of the slide oiled lightly, but keep the underside of the slide, where it would contact the cartridges, dry.
