I have some .313 115 gr lead bullets and Unique powder. Anyone have a 50 yd mild load for .303 British for this combo? Do you use a filler to take up the empty space in the case? I have carded wool that I use as a filler in my 577/450 cases that I figure should work.

light load for .303 British?

I fireform my .303 British cases using .312 pistol bullets using Trail Boss or SR-4759, these two powders fill the case better and give better loading density and accuracy. They also prevent double charging the case and damage to you and your rifle.

I slip a small thin rubber o-ring around the case for fireforming, this holds the case against the bolt face, "AND" when the o-ring is compressed it centers the rear of the case in the chamber. British military chambers are "fat and long" and American SAAMI cases run on the small side in base diameter. Meaning these cases will just "lay" in the bottom of the chamber when fired and end up out of alignment with the axis of the bore.

After fireforming you let the case headspace on the shoulder for longer case life and prevent stretching and thinning in the base web area.

When the cases get too snug you can use a .303 British case forming and trim dia as a shoulder bump die.

The 10g Unique load works perfectly well for jacketed, plated or lead bullets. Less than that will start giving you incomplete burning of the powder with a light bullet and much more (like 15g) will give poor accuracy. I shoot 100g short jacket, 110g plated and 113g cast with 10g Unique or Red Dot out of a 788 .308 and they have almost the same accuracy as my full power 150g bullets but with only a 1750 fps MV, there is virtually no recoil. No filler needed and LR or LP primers will work so long as your firing pin can make up for the slight difference in primer height. If in doubt, just stick with LRP's.
