    Hornady LnL progressive press

So I'll be receiving the LnL press tomorrow. I've got the dies, shell plates and powder through case exlander. On the recommendation I read online I got some hornady one shot dry lube to decrease the press.

Any other recommendations to get this thing going? I've been reloading on an old Lyman turret press so I have that set up, but haven't done progressive reloading yet. I plan to pretty much stick to 9mm and 45acp. Possibly .38/.357 in the near future.

Thanks in advance for any info I can get.

Keep spare retainer springs on hand. I bent two nearly instantly when the press was new. After I learned my lesson I never wrecked any more, but I keep spares no less.

Might consider super gluing a dime under the primer ram, it likes to gradually smash a hole into the press body, as seen here:

Also keep an eye on your powder drop. Using a PTX, the torque on the drop is enough that the bushings like to gradually back out. If you're not using a lockout die, I promise the first time you see no powder in a case, you'll second guess yourself and wonder if you missed one that was without powder. Hornady sends out free shims to fix this issue.

When I owned one, these parts were handy.

      Powder measure lower linkage
      Extra primer tubes
      Extra die bushings
      RCBS Lock Out die
      Extra pawls
      Extra retainer spring

Were you in my garage last night????

this literally happend to me yesterday and i had just noticed that my powder measure die bushing was all the way out of battery and lifted up when the ram was raised, then i looked down and saw three empty cases

I wound up pulling 75 rounds just to find out 1 didn't have a charge. glad I caught it early though.

Along with the One Shot Dry lube, if you don't already have them, get them:
          1. Primer flipper tray
          2. Grease gun with zerk fitting

Watch the instruction videos, way better than the poorly written instruction sheet of the past, but there is a new one that just came out this month which is quite a bit better. Get it from their website here.

The powder measure lower linkage, actually "lower assembly", comes with the press. You would only buy one separately to preserve the expand and and bell setting for a caliber.

Primer flipper tray comes with the press. I am not aware of any need to have two.

One Shot is not a degreaser, but it does good job of flushing crud without traces being a threat to powder or primer. Flush the die threads with One Shot, but I can't think of anything else that literally needs degreasing...maybe wipe down the subplate before mounting a shellplate.

Finally, get some powdered graphite and run it several times through your newly- degreased powder measure. This makes it run smoother and your powder drops will be much more consistent after that.

Also, gently take the edge off the top of the hole in the primer slide that carries the primer forward. You don't need much - just take the sharpness off it. A sharp edge here will sometimes catch the next primer in the stack and bind or flip it.

There is a lot of good advice out there on the LnL and if you take your time setting it up and learning how everything works, you will love that press.

Wow, they include one with the press now?

                That's great.
The three things that everyone needs with this press which were not included a few years ago when I got mine were a can of One Shot, flipper tray and grease gun to inject grease into the grease ring. I'm glad they include the tray now.

I received mine two weeks ago and it didn't come with a tray... I just bought the press not the full ammo plant.

One of you guys needs to buy the electro gadget for the LNL and report on it.

Buy a can or 3 of compressed air. You'll need it when you spill powder in the primer chute, and on the shell plates.

Only problems I ever had were due to powder getting stuck in the chute.

ICBW, but it's been a few years since I acquired all that stuff. I don't see how the machine is complete without the ability to load the included primer tubes.

I checked my manual's bill of materials, and it's not on there.

See Primer Turning Plate. For $5 and change, how hard could it be for Hornady to include this part?

should come with extra spings & paws - most already have the flip tray.

                          you will need;
                          extra LNL bushings
                          o-ring kit from harbor freight
                          lock washer
                          and lots of bullets.

There is a warranty part kit now for the primer plugs (lg and sm) and new sliders. The powder fouling and primer tripping are what have been addressed. Call 'em.

Interesting. Haven't had a problem with the lg plug or slider, but worth a call. I already have to call them back due to se shorty repair work on a 38 super die set, along with a brand new 38 super die set. 2 broken sets won't cut it. I'll add it to my list.

                              Thanks for the tip.
