You only have to change your media once it gets dirty and doesn't really clean your cases well. I've been using my corn cob for a few months (I don't do heavy volumes of tumbling so mine lasts longer than some others) and it has started to turn a darker color. I added a cut up drier sheet with some rounds to get case lube off and it picked up a lot of the dust and looks much better now. I figure I'll use it until my cases look as dirty as when they went in.

I like SmokeWagon have used a 50/50 blend of walnut hulls and corn cob for at least a year. Cuts down on the dust of walnut with rouge. I change it out when it turns.

Pet store walnut and Nufinish, several hundred rounds later, no dust and damn purdy brass. Even tumbled assembled, good stuff.

I tumble first, deprime, and tumble again.. it's a rifle thing.
After watching WTC Bldg #7 being razed, and considering it's main occupants..

I stumbled onto this note while checking advanced weapons..
"911 = false flag. WTC 7 was brought down by demolition. 47 floors came down in 6 1/2 seconds - not hit by a plane. Just one of hundreds of absurdities that occurred that day. Wake up".

I've gone thought a couple 5 gallon buckets worth of brass and I am still on my original walnut media...

Media is dark, but it still cleans the cases well.

Media is maintained with dryer sheets.

I use Walnut. I want "clean" as quick as possible with "shine" not being particularly important.

I'm a corncob guy cuz the walnut dust was a total deal breaker. The flash hole clogging my rifle shells got me to get set up with stainless for wet tumbling. If it weren't for rifle, I'd be corncob for life.

I usually wash my brass with Lemi Shine before tumbling to get the nastiest of the residue/dust out of it and tumble with a USED drier sheet that collects more crud.

I think the stuff I'm using now has been in there a year +.

                  Both as described above.
