    Load info...

Anyone have a source on load info for 45 acp. 230gr FMJ? I have 2 loading manuals and they only have info for the TMJ vaariety in 230gr....

Has anyone actually tried the FMJ bullet in place of a TMJ?

Thanks in advance for the input........

Truncated refers to the shape of the bullet. If the weight is the same, same-same.

I'm not even sure what a TMJ is . I guessing Total Metal Jacket... seems like full metal jacket info would get you close. I'd say start low work up and watch the primers. .45acp is not a high pressure round and pretty forgiveing... but I shoot lead what do I know.

It isn't truncated...it is full metal jacket vs total metal jacket...the rear has the exposed lead- I was wondering if the FMJ would create different pressures than the TMJ....

That's what I figured Mikeb...I'll start low.....i like the lower pressures in my other calibers anyway....I seem to be waay more accurate with them....

Full Metal Jacket, and Total Metal Jacket are loaded the same if they are the same weight. The only difference is FMJ has the bottom of the lead bullet exposed, where TMJ doesn't. FMJ are cheaper to make. Unless you are shooting a pistol that has polyginal barreling, shoot lead to start. The lead is much cheaper. If you have a Glock or such shoot plated( Berry's or Rainier), I like Bear Creek moly coated lead. My .02

Load FMJs and TMJs the same. Start at the lower level and watch for proper functiong until you get to the proper velocity

I sometimes get confused with the load data as well. For example the speers manual is saying 5.6 to 6.3 for a w231 but on hodgdon is saying 4.7 to 5.6 and winchester manual is 4.7 to 5.3. I did compare it with the winchester white box and 5.1 was kinda soft. Speers was for TMJ and hodg and winch is for FMJ, but i think speers just is a little on the hot side.

Start at 4.8 and go up .2 to the max. You will probably find your most accurate load is just under max. I know.

Every set of test results use different controls (test barrel, etc.) so pressures are different for each manual. Start low (but not too low if your using a slower burning powder!!!!) AND GRADUALLY work your way up. It's the way its done and theres a reason for it! Have fun!
