Not when you add in the cost for dies, swager, calipers, scale etc...

For about 600 yo can have a Dillon 550 with scale, calipers, and a set of lee dies. You can remove primer pocket crimps with a drill. So for 33% more money (rcbs rebate included) you will have a press that nearly quadruples your output, and you'll have a press that you won't outgrow. The 450 you spent on the rcbs won't seem like that great of a deal when your time becomes important. Of course, this is just my take on it. Buy what you want, but understand that there may be better values.

There are also things other than blue...blue isn't the best for everyone. We all know how the blue crowd has to come on every thread and justify why they think their press is better.

Of course there are. I don't think you're getting the point. This has nothing to do with which press is better. It has everything to do with getting a reloading setup at a great value. Substitute a LnL for the 550 and it's the same scenario.

FYI, I own a RCBS single stage and a Lee Classic Turret that I use frequently for small jobs and I think they're great. Stop thinking that this has anything to do with press color.

I think he means a single stage will never cease being useful, even after moving on to bigger and better things.

I may not use it as much as my progressive, but that lee breechlock challenger press i bought years ago still sees a lot of action.

For some people a single sage is enough. And that kit is not bad.

Then buy a cheap single stage with your non color specific progressive press. Using a single stage for small jobs here and there is fine. I do it on my jr3. But feeding an AR is going to get old pretty quick with a single stage press...especially one that cost almost $500.
